Excitement is building as organisers and coordinators of the European Days of Jewish Culture are putting the finishing touches on an annual celebration that highlights the richness of Jewish culture and heritage across the European continent.
Scheduled to take place on 3 September, 2023, the Opening Ceremony of the European Days of Jewish Culture will launch this year’s edition of the European Days of Jewish Culture. The ceremony is set to take place at the emblematic Grande Synagogue de l’Europe in Brussels. This choice of venue is of particular significance, as it is one of the main seats of the European Union, and it testifies to the vital role of Jewish culture in fostering understanding and collaboration between European communities.
The ceremony will focus on this edition’s theme of memory, through a variety of speeches on the contribution of Jewish culture to Europe and a varied musical program. Representatives of Spanish Presidency of the EU, the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Council of Europe, Mr. Bjørn Berge, have confirmed their participation. The confirmed presence of UNESCO representatives as well is particularly symbolic as this year’s European Days of Jewish Culture 2023 is happening under the prestigious patronage of UNESCO. This collaboration marks a significant milestone for our event and emphasizes the shared commitment to celebrating and preserving Jewish heritage and culture. Furthermore, European Commission Coordinator on combating antisemitism and fostering Jewish life, Ms. Katharina von Schnurbein, Vice-President of the European Parliament, Mr. Marc Angel, Deputy Secretary of the Council of Europe, Mr. Bjørn Berge, Representative to the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Mr. Sergio Ortega, Head of the Heritage Protection and European Programs Service, Ministry of Culture of Spain, and our very own AEPJ President, Mr. François Moyse are set to speak during the ceremony.
Attendees can look forward to a dynamic program that promises to engage the senses and ignite a deeper appreciation for Jewish culture.
