EDJC 2023 > Guided tour of the Jewish cemetery in Dorsten
Jewish cemeteries are created for eternity. The earliest cemetery still preserved today can be found in Worms; it dates back to the early 11th century. In most places there are no longer any Jewish communities, so in many places Jewish cemeteries are the only witnesses of Jewish life in Germany.
East of Dorsten lies the so-called Judenbusch, the Dorsten Jewish cemetery, which was first mentioned in a document in 1628. Between 1815 and 1941 around 80 burials took place here.
The tour covers the history of the cemetery. Using selected tombs, the structure of the Hebrew inscriptions and symbols is explained and short biographies are told.
Tickets €5; Register at reception@jmw-dorsten.de or on 02362 45279.
