AEPJ General Assembly 2026
7th-8th of June, 2026
Vienna, Austria

A gathering at the heart of Jewish heritage in Europe
We are delighted to invite you to the AEPJ General Assembly 2026, which will take place in the historic city of Vienna from 6 to 8 June 2026.
Bringing together primarily the members of the AEPJ network from across Europe, the General Assembly represents a unique moment of encounter for the entire community. It is a key milestone in the life of the organisation, a space to reconnect, share experiences and reinforce the sense of belonging to a common European project. Beyond its statutory role, the Assembly also marks an important moment of growth for the AEPJ, fostering new collaborations, strengthening existing ties and collectively shaping the next steps of our work in the field of Jewish heritage.
This year’s edition is hosted by our valued partners, the Burgenländische Forschungsgesellschaft, and will take place in a city whose history, complexity and cultural richness provide an especially meaningful setting for our discussions. Vienna stands as a key reference point in the European Jewish experience, making it an ideal backdrop to connect professional dialogue with heritage, memory and contemporary cultural life.
Venue & Location
The Assembly will take place at the historic Hotel Stefanie, the oldest hotel in Vienna, ideally located in the city’s second district (Leopoldstadt), traditionally the heart of Jewish life in the Austrian capital.
The choice of venue reflects both practical and symbolic considerations. On the one hand, its central location ensures excellent accessibility, with direct connections to the airport and easy access via public transport (bus, metro and tram). On the other hand, it places participants within immediate proximity to key sites of Jewish heritage and cultural life in Vienna.
The hotel itself carries a remarkable historical legacy. In the period between the First and Second World Wars, it hosted a prayer room used by members of the Jewish community when synagogues were overcrowded, and it also played a role in Vienna’s Jewish cultural and theatrical life. Today, it continues to serve as a vibrant meeting place, combining tradition with modern facilities, and is frequently used as a filming location for international productions.
All sessions will take place within the hotel, using both its main conference space and its historic library, offering a comfortable and cohesive environment for the Assembly.
