The NextRoutes project continues its way, reaching the moment of testing the use of the gamification platform created specifically within the framework of the project. By means of the smartphone application generated, for now in demo format, the Cultural Routes participating in the project have the possibility of implementing self-guided tours through clue games, with a wide versatility, as it can be used in any space such as heritage sites, museums, urban or rural environments to mention some existing examples. The Gaming Labs, designed to test the demo, started in Barcelona last week, where groups of young people, university students of the history of Judaism in Spain, undertook a co-design process, mediated by a local expert, and then went on the tour, testing the knowledge of their classmates.
A tour that through a series of challenges has posed an exciting discovery through the history of the medieval Jewish community of the city, concluded on the terrace of Casa Adret, headquarters of the AEPJ, from which the participants could enjoy magnificent views over the historic centre of the city. The same group gave feedback on the session and a series of proposals for improvement that will be analysed by the Next Routes team throughout the next phase of the project. Although this type of initiative is considered especially ideal for young groups, anyone who has a mobile phone can enjoy it, as it is therefore a highly accessible proposal, addressing not only the issue about diversity of ways to interact with heritage sites but also the availability of relevant and accurate information in places where it is not possible to have the means for interpretation on site permanently.
NextRoutes is an Erasmus+ funded project, involving six cultural routes: the Phoenician’s Route, the Routes of the Olive Tree, Mozart Ways, ATRIUM. Architecture of Totalitarian Regimes in Europe’s Urban Memory, Iron Age in the Danube Route and the European Route of Jewish Heritage.
