The Choral Synagogue is considered the most famous of the Chisinau synagogues. It was the largest in size and built in 1913 for the 300th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty.
The first Choral synagogue was built in the Russian Empire in 1840, in Odessa. Such a synagogue is a special ethno-confessional phenomenon. Its elements are associated with liberal traditions in Judaism. For Chisinau, this is also confirmed by the fact that the name “Temple” appears in the name of the synagogue. A beautiful building repeats some elements of the Jerusalem Temple.
