The A Bisale Mazl – A Bit of Luck − Egy kis mázli 2025 festival is a continuation and expansion of an international project that was first implemented by the organisers from Šalovci and Domanjševci/Domonkosfe in September 2023. The idea for the festival arose from the commemoration of the commemorative paving stones that were laid in 2022 in front of the municipal building in Šalovci in memory of the photographer Julij Gyula Schönauer and his family. The Schönauers, along with most of the Jews from Prekmurje, became victims of the Holocaust 81 years ago.
The festival will begin with a klezmer dance workshop, performed by the Pallawatsch group from Vienna. For 30 years, Pallawatsch has been dedicated to the culture of Eastern European Jews with instrumental klezmer music, Yiddish songs and traditional dances to klezmer music. In addition to performances and workshops in Austria, the group has also played at numerous festivals abroad.
The program will continue with the opening ceremony, at which the main organiser and coordinator of the festival Katja Fras and the director of the Synagogue Maribor Boris Hajdinjak will address the gathered visitors, and children from the Šalovci elementary school will present a short cultural programme.
The ceremony will be followed by a guided tour of the exhibition dedicated to Juli Gyula Schönauer and his family, which will be conducted by the exhibition's author Mark Krenn and Boris Hajdinjak.
