EDJC 2023 > A Night of Klezmer

A Night of Klezmer

The Oslo Jewish Museum is pleased to once again invite you to A Night of Klezmer (Klezmernatt)! The tradition of holding an annual concert with klezmer music has turned 15 this year, and the stage is set for an anniversary. The concert will be held at the Cosmopolite Stage on Saturday the 9th of September.

This year it is the two bands Klezmerata Hamburg and Styrian Klezmore who offer sweet and energetic tones. We will have a total of thirteen musicians on stage this evening!

Doors open at 19:00 and the first concert begins at 20:00.

Klezmerata Hamburg
Guido Jäger, double bass player in the band, guested at Klezmernatt together with the world-famous clarinetist Giora Feidman in 2019 – and it turned out well! We welcome him back to the same stage, now with a new band.

Since 2018, Klezmerata Hamburg has offered a rich repertoire of traditional Yiddish songs, in addition to new and exciting compositions. The music is both melodious and sensitive, energetic and exuberant. The four musicians have their point of view in several different traditions, both classical and jazz – and together they convey pure musical joy!

The band consists of:
Kateryna Ostrovska – vocals, guitar and percussion
Jana Mishenina – violin and song
Valentin Butt – accordion
Guido Jäger – double bass

Styrian Klezmore
Styrian Klezmore presents a total of nine musicians, ready to take the city by storm. Here the traditional meets the modern, and we are presented with high-energy klezmer music interspersed with swing, cabaret, Balkan music and tango. Based on the album production Klezmer Explosion, Styrian Klezmore was founded in the spring of 2021 by clarinetist Moritz Weiß and accordionist Ivan Trenev.

Conductor Weiß, with extensive experience in the klezmer genre, leads a coordinated orchestra this time consisting of:

Moritz Weiß – clarinet and bass clarinet
Maximilian Kreuzer – double bass
Ivan Trenev – accordion
Albin Krieger – violin
Lukas Kleemair – percussion
Simon Kintopp – trombone
Johannes Fruhwirth – trumpet
Simon Reithofer – guitar
Alana Macpherson – saxophone

Welcome!
