It is with great pleasure that we welcome the Lviv Tourism Office to the AEPJ family.
A multicultural, spiritual and historical city first mentioned in 1256, Lviv has been shaped over the centuries by the many cultures that have called it home, Jewish heritage featuring prominently among them. Located in western Ukraine, just 75 km from the border with Poland, Lviv is a vibrant centre of culture, gastronomy, music and literature, hosting international events that have long defined it as an open and intellectual environment.
Since 2022, the city has taken on an additional role: a place of temporary shelter for internally displaced persons and, for many, a new home. Lviv today serves as a key humanitarian and logistical hub, a centre for international organisations and a host for guests from around the world. It is in this spirit of resilience, openness and care that we are especially honoured to welcome its tourism body into our network.
The Lviv Tourism Office: tourism with purpose
The Lviv Tourism Office is the executive body of the Lviv City Council responsible for implementing the city’s tourism policy. Its work is guided by a commitment to sustainable, accessible and responsible tourism within the Lviv City Territorial Community, enhancing the city’s appeal while strengthening domestic tourism and growing its international reach.
Beyond promotion, the Office invests in research and analytics, close cooperation with local professional communities — from the hotel and restaurant sector to guides, cultural institutions, event organisers and NGOs — and the support of cultural institutions and local initiatives. International cooperation and participation in cross-border heritage and tourism projects sit at the heart of its mission, making it a natural and welcome partner for AEPJ.

An inclusive and barrier-free city
One of the most distinctive strands of the Office’s work is its dedication to building an inclusive city and a barrier-free environment.
The “Hospitality Without Barriers” guide equips the HoReCa sector with the right vocabulary, principles of respectful interaction and practical service recommendations, so that hospitality in Lviv truly reaches everyone.
Complementing this, the “Accessible City” map empowers travellers with disabilities to plan their visits with confidence, while encouraging local businesses to adopt universal design in order to be featured.
“City Heals”: culture as recovery
Through the “City Heals” programme, the Lviv Tourism Office offers socio-cultural recovery for military personnel and veterans undergoing treatment or rehabilitation in medical facilities across the Lviv City Territorial Community. Delivered in collaboration with medical institutions and partners, the programme reflects a deeply human understanding of what culture and place can mean in times of healing.
Welcoming visitors all year round
The Office’s work to welcome visitors is woven throughout the year. Tourist Information Centres, the Lviv.Travel digital platform and the Lviv City Card make the city easier to discover, while seasonal campaigns give each season its own character.
During “Your Christmas in Lviv”, the much-loved “Christmas Post” becomes one of the city’s most visited winter locations, where guests can buy and send unique postcards to any corner of the world. In spring, “Lviv – The City of Spring” brings a “Blossom Map” for planning walks and photo sessions, alongside excursions, concerts and fairs.

Heritage, pilgrimage and shared memory
The Lviv Tourism Office also champions heritage in its many forms. It supports the “Camino Ruteno” — the St. James’ Way pilgrimage route — and brings the city into Europe’s wider cultural calendar through European Heritage Days and International Museum Day in Lviv, alongside ongoing support for projects connected to heritage, gastronomy and local culture.
Looking ahead
Welcoming the Lviv Tourism Office to AEPJ reflects a shared commitment to accessible, responsible and meaningful tourism, and to keeping the layered cultural memory of European cities — including their Jewish heritage — alive and visible. We look forward to working together, learning from Lviv’s experience, and sharing the Office’s work with the wider AEPJ community.
