Agudath Israel has received a grant from the Ministry of Culture in Moldova to develop activities in the context of the Jewish History Tours project. Jewish History Tours is an innovative project that leverages the power of location-based storytelling to create engaging and high-quality tours on Jewish life and culture, dealing with pan-European topics, such as multiculturalism, persecution and migration. The project to be developed by Agudath Israel, “Along the Routes of the Jewish History of Moldova” (“Pe rutele istoriei evreieşti a Moldovei”) is an innovative form of preserving material and cultural Jewish heritage on the territory of Moldova in the form of audio and online tourist guides in the main European languages, created on the basis of European platforms in cooperation with the Cultural Routes projects of the Council of Europe. Geographically, the project covers the largest settlements on both banks of the Dniester.
In addition, the project serves to develop local and international tourism in the country, promoting the image of Moldova and the processes of its European integration, as well as intercultural enrichment and fostering tolerance and mutual respect within the multinational community of Moldova.
As Michael Finckel, Agudath Israel in Moldova Deputy Director expressed, “Receiving the grant from the Ministry of Culture of Moldova was very important as it raised the level of the activities in the frames of the project, and potentially will give us a chance to continue realizing its further stages on the level of the government. Also, it might help attract more and other partners and ultimately give us a financial opportunity to at least partly cover expenses on the project activities.”
The work on the project is carried out by reputable experts in their fields and with the participation of partners from Moldova and abroad, primarily the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova, the Agency for Interethnic Relations of the Republic of Moldova, as well as the European Association for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage (AEPJ). We congratulate Agudath Israel on this formidable work in promoting Moldovan Jewish culture and heritage.
