ŠTETL FEST is an international multi-genre festival of Jewish culture held annually in Brno at the end of summer at a host of venues and locations connected to Jewish history. In just three years, ŠTETL FEST has become the largest festival of Jewish culture in the Czech Republic and has gained significant recognition abroad. It not only strengthens cultural ties within Brno but also collaborates with state institutions, participates in international projects, and promotes its core motto: Dignity in Diversity.
The festival aims to introduce Jewish culture, history, and traditions to the general public while fostering mutual understanding and respect in intercultural and intercommunal dialogue. Each year, the festival follows a central theme and includes a variety of programmes: lectures, exhibitions, discussions, guided architectural tours, concerts, theatre performances and for children’s workshops.

Laurent Héricher est conservateur chargé des manuscrits hébreux, chef du service des manuscrits du Monde à la Bibliothèque nationale de France.
Au Moyen-âge, les Juifs trouvèrent dans la copie des manuscrits de la Bible et dans leur décoration une forme d’art sacré. La mise en page du texte hébreu en constitue le principal élément de décor. Le texte doit être embelli par une calligraphie soignée et rigoureuse respectant les règles de mise en page. Le principe du hidour c’est-à-dire de l’embellissement est essentiel dans la pratique des commandements en général et s’applique également pour la copie du manuscrit.

Theater Performance “Life, Word and Destiny” by Nathan Alterman – as part of the “Anthology of Israeli Literature” program
A musical and poetic performance dedicated to the work of renowned Israeli poet Nathan Alterman. Directed by National Artist of the Republic of Moldova Iosif Shats, with musical arrangement by National Artist of the Republic of Moldova Marian Stârcea, the production brings Alterman’s poetry to life on stage, blending music and word in a moving and evocative theatrical experience.
The cast features actors from the State Russian Drama Theater and the National Theater "Satiricus".
The forum brings together representatives of the Jewish community, experts, and partners for dialogue on tradition, history, and contemporary issues. The program includes lectures, discussions, and creative sessions aimed at strengthening identity and fostering cultural exchange.
Among the topics featured:
– the role of the Jewish diaspora in the development of education, science, and culture in Moldova and beyond;
– lecture “Klezmer Music. From the Pale of Settlement to the World Stage”;
– lecture on kosher wine and Jewish gastronomic traditions;
– discussions on heritage preservation and intercultural dialogue.
The “Gesher” Forum will serve as a meaningful platform for sharing knowledge and experience, building new “bridges” between generations and cultures.

Large cities and small towns alike will host a full day of encounters inspired by this year’s theme, People of the Book—a journey into the texts, voices, and ideas that have shaped Jewish life for millennia.
