Opening of the exhibition “Spots of Light: Women in the Holocaust”

This exhibition is revealing the human story that lurks behind the historical account of what happened in Holocaust. This story is speaking about the Jewish victims and create space for the unique voice of the women among them. Women in the Holocaust applied their minds to a place that deprived them of their minds; brought strength to a place where they had no strength. And in a place where they and their families had no right to live, they marched all the way to death and invested every additional moment of life with meaning. It is precisely these women's voices that need to be emphasized and their stories told.
The exhibition is an adaptation of the exhibition "Spots of Light" , curator Yehudit Inbar.

Ruth and Esther: Between Earth and Heaven

These two human and female stories summarize a multitude of theological and social burning topics. They talk about violence, patriarchy and power, creativity and survival in difficult living conditions, about the price of faith and following, about anti-Semitism, but also about why these two women are a permanent link between Judaism and Christianity.
The event will take place in the library of Evangelical Theological Seminary.

Dead Sea Guardians

The Dead Sea, shared by Israelis, Jordanians and Palestinians – is a unique salt-lake, known for its exceptional geographical, biological, and historical value, and is the lowest point on Earth. Tragically, the Dead Sea is drying up, causing widespread damage, including huge sinkholes, abandoned beaches and collapsing roads. This is not an act of nature. This is due to overconsumption and poor water management. If action is not taken soon, very little of the Dead Sea will remain. In a region of ongoing conflict, troubled politics and destructive economics, natural resources have been exhausted and are urgently signaling their demise. To save the Dead Sea, the surrounding countries must work together. Three people – a Jordanian, an Israeli and a Palestinian – feel they cannot just stand by and do nothing.

Cemeteries as guardians of family and cultural heritage – a presentation of the linguistic landscape in the Jewish cemeteries of Slavonia and Baranja

Lecture/exhibition about Jewish cemeteries in Slavonia and Baranja.
Cemeteries are treasuries of preserving cultural treasures, identity and evidence of the presence of a community in a certain area, so their documentation and subsequent study is extremely important for both minority and majority ethnic groups with the aim of getting to know local, regional, and national, history.
Cemeteries are guardians of a language and a culture, they preserve our names and symbols of religious and secular existence, as well as the names of the gods we pray to. They are symbols of human existence that, even with a certain time lag, provide a lot of information about the community that sets them up. Minority communities erode over time, they are left without generations that could take care of the burial places of their ancestors, and for this reason it is extremely important to document and analyze the places that preserve the culture of the peoples who have been present in these areas for centuries.

The Church and the Jews

Anti-Semitism in its broadest form can be seen as racism. In addition to Christian, there was pagan, Muslim, Marxist and Nazi anti-Semitism. The basis of hostility towards the Jews is found in religious motives, to which socio-economic ones were later added.
Let's get to know the examples from the past – the good ones and the bad ones and let's turn to a better future in which tolerance and respect for diversity will be in the first place.
The event will take place in the library of Evangelical Theological Seminary.

Guided Tour through the Donji Grad

Jewish Tour in Donji grad is the third continuation of the guided tour "Traces of Jewish Heritage in Osijek", which forms an integral part of the Month of Jewish Culture. As the name suggests, the new tour is connected to the area where the Jewish community in Donji Grad once operated. During the walk, the participants will learn several dramatic stories about our former fellow citizens, about the fate of the Jewish Nursing Home, about the double robbery of Jewish property, but also about the Allied bombing of Donji Grad in 1944. The tour will end with a visit to the former Donji Grad Synagogue in Cvjetkova Street.
