Contrary to popular belief, the Holocaust was not a taboo in the fine arts of early Socialist Hungary. In addition to numerous non-commissioned works of art, the subject also emerged within official memory politics. The research-based exhibition and the accompanying book in preparation present an early Kádár-era chapter of Holocaust memory in the fine arts; the rediscovered art material from the 1960s Hungarian exhibitions in Auschwitz.
The Polish museum, operating at the site of the former concentration camp, offered barracks for national exhibitions from 1960 onward. In 2004, the Blinken OSA Archivum presented the history of the Hungarian exhibitions in Auschwitz under the title Auschwitz 1945–1989.
Before the Second World War, a small but active community operated in Valga. The war, the Holocaust and the Soviet regime destroyed this community. Generations grew up in the city who have no knowledge or historical memory of Jews, their faith and customs. The Valga Museum organizes an exhibition about Judaism and Jewish customs in cooperation with the Estonian Jewish Museum and with the support of the Estonian state. A lecture on Judaism and Jewish customs will be held at the opening of the exhibition, followed by a kosher cooking workshop. The Days of European Jewish Culture will be organized in Valga for the first time.
A Testimony of Survival: A Meeting with Bernard Offen, a Concentration Camp Survivor

We would like to invite you to unique meetings with Bernard Offen, a true hero and a Holocaust Survivor. The meetings will be a chance to get to know the life story of Mr. Offen, but also to understand the deep human strength and resilience in the most difficult circumstances.
During the meetings Mr. Bernard Offen will share his personal story from the times, when he was a little boy living in the district of Podgórze and the difficult time he had to survive during the Second World War. We will get to know his childhood memories, hear more about his parents, brothers, and friends, but also his painful experiences from the ghetto and concentration camps such as Plaszow, Auschwitz, and Birkenau.

40 years after his Polish-Jewish mother and family escaped Poland to Denmark, Jacob, a young Danish film director, visits the building in Wrocław where the family lived. He tries to engage in conversations with the current tenants about a piece of furniture left there, an old German credenza. During the search, Jacob also involves his mother over the phone, which opens up new clues and wider perspectives
A personal, tragicomic story about how history and displacement of people affects the identity and human memory of different generations.
The director and protagonist of the film and initiator of the project KREDENS: LIVE, Jacob Dammas, is a Danish (of Polish-Jewish descent) documentary filmmaker and creator of cultural projects, based in Copenhagen and Warsaw.
For the New Jewish Year 5784 and as part of the European Day of Jewish Culture, the exhibition "Memory", created by the National Library of Israel, was hung on the fence of the Sofia Synagogue. This exhibition is based on archival materials, memoirs, press clippings, historical photographs, municipal registers, postcards and other memorabilia of European Jewish communities, with each poster providing a window into the history of a given community.

👥 Zanurzymy się w nieodkryte biografie, odtwarzając losy nieznanych polskich Żydów. Na podstawie własnej wyobraźni i obserwacji zdjęć napiszemy ich historie. Historie napisane zestawimy następnie z historiami prawdziwymi naszych bohaterów, poznając ich rzeczywiste losy.
✂️ W drugiej części warsztatów opowiemy o tych postaciach w sposób wizualny, tworząc kolaże w oknach Błękitnego Wieżowca. Będziemy łączyć czarno-białe zdjęcia z intensywnymi kolorami i przeróżnymi kształtami. Stworzymy w ten sposób galerię historii prawdziwych.
💡 Warsztaty poprowadzą Helena Czernek i Aleksander Prugar, czyli założyciele marki MI POLIN, tworzącej design o tematyce żydowskiej.
✡️ Interdyscyplinarne, kreatywne warsztaty odbędą się w ramach Europejskich Dni Kultury Żydowskiej 2023.
